World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF) used to be – as I recall from my days of backpacking long ago and far away – Willing Workers on Organic Farms. Despite the name change, WOOFing is still a great way to learn about organic farming / gardening, meet new people and travel on a budget.
In return for volunteer help, WWOOF hosts offer food, accommodation and opportunities to learn about organic lifestyles.
There are three types of entities in the WWOOF world: Volunteers, Hosts and Organizations
- Volunteers do not pay for their stay.
- Hosts do not pay volunteers for their help.
- Organizations can charge a small fee to hosts and volunteers to help maintain the network.
For more information, or to volunteer on an organic farm, check out: www.wwoof.org.

Hello, I am a travelling carpenter with farm experience, and looking for a place to stay and help with work for tent space for a week or so. I am skilled at many trades and would like to see what its like on a urban farm. Anyone close to Berkeley / Bay area? Please call if you need a little work done and wouldn’t mind a tent in the field. I’ve got truck and tools, references and family locally. 612-385-5279 Please leave a message
